More than a decade later, the digital infrastructure that enabled challenger companies to dominate established industries has grown. Where the gun gave the weak power over the strong, so technology empowers the few against the many. We are witnessing the mass enfranchisement of individuals by the proliferation of the force multipliers, knowledge and network. 

Multinationals outgrow governments and the wealth of the super-rich expands, largely unconstrained by democratic consent. Power naturally accrues to the centre at the expense of the periphery. Fiat fungibility extends to such spurious signifiers as carbon credits, paper precious metal futures and the promise of a pension.

We are witnessing the construction of a hyperreal mirror world—a digital simulacrum that mimics the form of reality, but is almost entirely emancipated from its physical laws. As above, so below.
